This program mainly focused on biomolecular option integrates fundamental principles in the natural sciences and mathematics with sound engineering precepts to tackle problems in medical science and biology. Such problems include development of biological materials, and implants; study of processes for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of disease; and development of new methods and techniques for patient rehabilitation and health monitoring.

Students must meet one of the following college readiness standards in order to be eligible to be considered for admission at a Texas four-year public institution. Students must successfully complete the recommended or advanced high school program or complete the portion of the program that was available to them; or students must have the scores of SAT - 1500 out of 2400 (verbal, math and writing)/ACT - 18 English, 21 reading, 22 mathematics and 24 science; or successfully complete a curriculum that is equivalent in content and rigor to the recommended or advanced high school program at a high school that is exempt from offering such programs. Students that do not meet one of first two requirements must prove they meet the third requirement by having their counselor fill out the high school curriculum certification form and submit to the University of Houston. Students must complete each of the high school academic core courses four units of English; two units of social studies; one unit of chemistry; one unit of physics; one unit of mechanical drawing (in the 10th, 11th, or 12th grade); four units of mathematics (including two units/credits in algebra, one in geometry, and 1/2 in either four elementary analysis or analytical geometry) with an average of a 2.5 or a “C+” or higher for the group. Students should have secured a minimum score of 550 (paper-based) or 79 (internet-based) on the test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or overall band score of 6.5 on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) or completion of level six of the University of Houston’s Language and Culture Center.

The University has on campus housing which is maintained by Residential Life and Housing. The residential halls include Moody Towers, Quadrangle, Cougar Place and some privately owned halls are Cullen Oaks and Bayou Oaks. The student housing ranges from traditional single or double dorm rooms to suite-style halls to fully furnished on-campus apartments. All facilities are equipped with up-to-date amenities including cable TV and Ethernet connectivity. Apartment options also have kitchens. Meal plans are flexible and students can choose a weekly or semester meal allowance. The university offers world-class exercise equipment and facilities for an assortment of recreational activities. It is a great place to indulge the senses with a performance or an art exhibit. Stages on campus host dance, musical, and theatrical performances throughout the year. Students have a variety of options for parking on campus. In addition, several METRO bus routes serve the campus.
