I loved it! I haven't regretted for one minute my decision to attend my hometown school. I wanted to study engineeringhere, but I started looking around to see which major actually "fits" me. We have different types of programs here - engineering, education, pre-pharmacy - literally, something for everyone. But that didn't make my decision any easier. After figuring out what I like to do and what I could do, I switched my major to Business Administration with an Economics and Finance minor. It fits me better and creates opportunities without limitations. One of the reasons I have been so active on campus is because of the financial aid I receive from the University. The generous package has allowed me to almost go to school for free. I am really blessed not to have to worry about money while at school. And being given the money really makes me focus. It helps me remember why I'm really here - to get a degree. Because of the aid, I really don't have to work to pay for my education.MTSU is its own little town inside Murfreesboro. Murfreesboro itself is so big that if you stay on this side of town, you'll never run into anyone from the other side of town unless you want to! The best thing about MTSU is that you can make it whatever you want it to be. I thought I wasn't going to get that traditional college experience, but I was wrong. Once I got involved - and that is key - I figured out I could do whatever I wanted to here. There are more than 300 student organizations to choose from.

I chose MTSU because of the reputation of its College of Mass Communication. Because of the College's outstanding reput...ation and the fact that it offered the major I was most interested in studying, it just made sense to attend MTSU. Everyone I talked to about mass communication talked about MTSU in the same breath. For me, the decision was simple. Attending MTSU was one of the best decisions I ever made. I love my major, am learning new concepts every day, and have met some people who will be my friends for the rest of my life. So come join me at Middle Tennessee State University. Be one of Tennessee's best. Just like me, you'll be glad you did.I also received an academic service scholarship which really helped make my decision that much easier. I had already applied here and been accepted but when I learned I was going to be receiving such a significant scholarship to help fund my education, everything just fell into place. My first year on campus, I lived in Gracie Hall. I liked living there, but would have much preferred living in one of the residence halls which cater specifically to freshman students. I think I would have got so much more out of my first year on campus if I was living with other freshmen. But it was a good experience and I learned how to live on campus fairly quickly. I also became a part of the Rowdy Raiders and spent a lot of time at football games, cheering on the Blue Raiders. They are so much fun! I also became a Raider Rep, one of the official campus tour guides. I got a chance to talk to prospective students and their families about what a great place MTSU is and answer all their questions from a student perspective.

I hope you will join me as one of Tennessee’s Best and make MTSU part of your college experience. When it came to choo...se a college, MTSU was definitely on my list. I am majoring in Electronic Media Communication in the College of Mass Communication, one of the highest regarded programs of its type in the entire country.Since MTSU has a really good Mass Communication program I took a tour, investigated a few things and made my decision. I talked with some of the Mass Communication faculty when I came for the tour and when I was at CUSTOMS. They seemed very knowledgeable and involved with their students. They spoke about hands-on projects to complement the textbook learning.I had already made my decision to become a Blue Raider when I learned about the Buchanan Fellowship, the highest scholarship given to MTSU students. I applied for it and was very excited when I received the call telling me I had been accepted into the Fellowship. The Buchanan Fellowship is a part of the University Honors College. My cousin had already been a part of the Honors College and loved it. He recommended it highly. The financial aspects of the Fellowship have really been great. It allows me to focus almost entirely on my class work. This award has afforded me the freedom to experience college.I have the freedom to choose classes of interest to me, which will become more focused in my junior and senior years I will also have the freedom to choose from a large range of fine arts, and maybe even play some music. I have the freedom to make college my own experience.

When you choose MTSU, you choose an advanced, quality education led by an extraordinary president and taught by profess...ors that truly go above and beyond in and out of the classroom. Combine that with our personable, outgoing, diverse student body and endless leadership, academic, and social activities – and Middle Tennessee State University lays a solid foundation for your future. I chose to make a difference at MTSU. I chose to be a part of a thriving academic community. And you can choose that, too. Choose to be one of Tennessee’s Best – here at Middle Tennessee State University.I am a junior majoring in Chemistry, with a Pre-Med concentration. As I look toward graduation, I know attending MTSU was the best decision I could have made.During my first week on campus, I was like any other freshman, trying to navigate our state-of-the-art and seemingly identical buildings with a campus map while struggling to arrive to class on time. With a little bit of help from some of my fellow 23,000 students, I soon learned the quickest way to and from my classes. Then I had a new challenge –how to get involved in college as I had been in high school. I soon made my way to our Student Life Office. I was excited to learn about MTSU’s more than 300 student-led organizations. Since then, I have become a member of MTSU’s Pre-Scripts Club (pre-professional club), SNMA (pre-med club), the Blue Elite, Student Ambassadors, Up ’til Dawn, Habitat for Humanity, Alternative Fall and Spring Breaks, a number of honor societies, the Mt. Zion College Ministry, several volunteer and community service organizations, and many others. I’ve even been on the Dean’s List almost every semester I have been on campus. Getting involved on campus is simple – don’t be frightened by the size of the student body. Once you take that first step and take initiative, you’ll become involved. It won’t matter if there are 23,000 students or 23. Everyone will feel like family.
I'm getting a great educational foundation for my future right here at Middle Tennessee. I wanted to go a school where...I was a person and not just another number. That place was MTSU. I could have gone a lot of places I chose MTSU because I like the campus enormously. If you warm up to MTSU, MTSU warms up to you. It's a great place to be! I have the Hope Scholarship and a Student Government Scholarship that helps me attend MTSU. The Hope covers my tuition and books and it is one less phone call I have to make to my parents for money. My parents really appreciate it. I feel as if I don't have to worry about money. I worked hard to earn those scholarships and now I don't have to pay anything for my undergraduate degree. It's less money I have to worry about for law school. Having the scholarships also allows me a certain social freedom. If I am not stuck at a job, it certainly gives me the opportunity to say ‘I can make it to that meeting,' or ‘let's go out to dinner.' The scholarships have really allowed me the chance to be involved in ways I never imagined possible. My major is political science with a concentration in public administration. I have a minor in history but come close to another with 12 hours of Spanish. I am going to graduate a semester early. I love MTSU. I plan to go on to law school–I hope to go to Georgetown University to pursue a career in civil rights law. MTSU is a really good school. Not only do you learn a lot in classes, but there are many chances to get involved on campus as well. At MTSU, you are going to meet people from all over the state and the country, if not the world. You are going to see what life is like outside Memphis, or Knoxville, wherever you are from. And studies have shown that being involved is what makes you want to stay on campus. I’ve been involved in a little bit of everything while on campus. I’ve been the Student Government Association Attorney General; been involved in Up ’til Dawn; the AIDS Quilt, and MTSU Student Judicial Board; was president of MTSU College Democrats, and treasurer of Gamma Beta Pi. Off campus, I have been just as busy as the District 16 Committeeman for the Rutherford County Democratic Party and involved with Big Brothers Big Sisters, and the NAACP. I tell everyone, if you want to be involved at MTSU, it is not hard. There are people from all walks of like who are involved on campus. No matter what your beliefs are, you will find someone who agrees with you.
