Overall: Good school, good financial aid, great academics (Arts and Sciences). Campus is pristine. Santa Clara University has many opportunities for those who like a smaller student body, mid size classes, and a private school setting.Scholarships: School meets 85% of demonstrated need (soon should be 95% after funding campaign). There are many athletic scholarships. $8,000 dean's academic scholarships; $5,000 Jesuit scholarship (for students from Jesuit high schools), and other minor academic scholarships. $2,000 - $4,000 music scholarships.Academics: Core is extensive. Anything in the liberal arts is bound to be great, especially political science. Great professors, interesting classes, and lots of work (The political science department is well known among graduate schools). All of my professors have been excellent and approachable. The political science faculty is comprised of some of the most intelligent profs on campus. Dr. Curry just received her fourth Fulbright this year. Dr. Minowitz, Lukes, Hanson, etc. are incredible. They are also very approachable. English, Math, History, Classics, and Religious Studies all have excellent faculty. Art History is a small department with good faculty. I've heard that engineering is pretty good too. STUDY ABROAD at Santa Clara University is a really good deal. If you go for fall quarter, the school will hold all of your aid for the entire year for winter and spring quarters. Specific direct exchange programs also allow students to transfer all Santa Clara University aid to a year-long program. Washington Semester is available for political science students. Quarter Schedule: Fast and furious. The first two weeks of fall is the only time available for daily partying. After that, the first set of midterms comes and... Students get to work. Facilities & endowment: $420 million endowment. A new library ($75 million) and business building ($40 million) will be finished in three years. Another $170 million should be tacked on to the school's scholarship endowment. New residence halls are great.Extra-Curricular Activities: Getting better. The Residential Learning Community system (new) is beginning to work. The music program for piano and voice is really good--getting better for ensemble and instrumental. Theater and dance have lots of funding. Social Life: Parties happen on Wed, Fri, and Sat. San Francisco and Santa Cruz are within driving/Cal Train distance. The city of Santa Clara has a small downtown; however, the university is closer to San Jose, which has a good number of cultural/social events (Requires a car or bus). Spirituality: Jesuit school with typical spiritual options--a well attended mass, regular retreats, social justice groups. Religion is not a dominating force unless a student chooses to get involved with it. Students can get caught up in self-contained groups...Once you mingle with different majors or involve in extracurricular, you'll find a plethora of nice and fun people. (I have good friends from poetry, political science, and the Society of Music.) Students are not particularly politically active--that is they don't tend to be radical. Many, especially political science majors, are interested in political involvement, but not activism.

Santa Clara University is a gorgeous and small private school in Northern California. The academics are rigo...rous and include classes that challenge ethics, principles and morals as well as your mind. Since teacher student ratios are always below 1:30 instead of 1:200 like other places, you feel like you can ask questions, go during office hours for help and make friends. There are some brilliant professors with relaxed demeanors. The business school is awesome and nationally ranked and probably the best of all the colleges at this university.SJ is 2 minutes away. There are bars, restaurants and clubs. SF is your best bet, as the nightlife there is awesome. And that is about 40 minutes away.

The philosophy department, though small, is excellent. The teachers are intelligent, helpful and willing to...discuss any issue. Santa Clara is a beautiful school with academics that extend beyond its reputation. As an outdoorsman, I love this place. Northern California is a Mecca of backpacking, rock climbing and the like. As a semi-hippie, I love this place. San Francisco and Berkeley are not far away. The bay area is a great place to be no matter who you are, but if you don't have a car, it's easy to get trapped in the Santa Clara bubble. Everyone ends up making at least a few close friends, and if we really want to party, it will take only 40 minutes of driving to find all the crazy stuff you could ever want. I like it here.
Santa Clara gave me a fine educational experience. I highly recommend a visit to the school so you can get a feel of t...he campus environment. The professors often give their home number out to students and are always willing to give one-on-one coaching and help. Many business professors bring a lot of credibility to the table from their success in Silicon Valley and elsewhere. Through the career center and other professors, I have been able to successfully network and get internship interview that have been helpful. The U-grad business school is good. The food is of good quality (for college food) and the variety is nice (more than just burgers and fries). The campus aesthetics are amazing...it truly is a nice bubble to stay in. People are friendly. The intramural sports are always competitive and fun and some day the basketball team will beat Gonzaga. Soon, there will be a brand new Library to go along with the new baseball field. Santa Clara University offers students good on-campus living conditions and slick facilities for working out and studying. You DO get what you pay for.

The school is obviously not for everyone, but I found it very fulfilling.Santa Clara University was a great... school for me. I stumbled a bit in the beginning, but as I grew comfortable in my majors (History & Poli Sci) everything seemed to click. Both departments are highly regarded by other schools and the faculty are warm, engaging, challenging and very, very smart. After graduation I was surprised to hear how highly regarded Santa Clara is throughout the nation. Almost everyone, upon hearing what school I attended, said, "Wow! That is a VERY GOOD school". I think that knowledge had some impact when I was hired, but it had a 'huge' impact on how I was perceived by colleagues and on promotions. The smaller population allowed for small classes (most of my classes during my senior year had 12 or fewer students).I made wonderful, life-long friends, particularly in my dorm during the freshman year, and I found it easy to participate in extra-curricular activities. Student Council, TSC (the newspaper), and Rowing, helped balance my studies.
