Established in 1872 as the Virginia Agricultural and Mechanical College, the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University is located in Blacksburg, Virginia. It is a public research university that currently enrolls more than 30,000 students. Virginia Tech offers programs through the colleges of Agriculture & Life Sciences, Architecture & Urban Studies, Liberal Arts and Human Sciences, Business, Engineering, Natural Resources, Science and Veterinary Medicine. Some of the other programs offered are General Engineering, Business, Biology, Communication, Psychology, Marketing, Political Science, Animal and Poultry Sciences, and Architecture.
